Inside the Patented Technology Behind the HiBridge Virtual Front Desk
HiBridge co-founder Mark Lucas explains the patented, end-to-end virtual reception system: live multi-clinic video, a pooled team of receptionists, and full transactions handled remotely.
Key takeaways
- The system is protected by a patent filed with 24 claims, all 24 of which were granted.
- Pooled receptionists see live video of every clinic they cover, and of each other, so they move between lobbies and stay highly efficient.
- Anything a desk does in person can be done remotely, including printing locally to the clinic, taking payments, and capturing insurance cards.
A patent that surprised even its inventors
When people ask what makes the HiBridge virtual front desk different, co-founder Mark Lucas points to the technology underneath it. HiBridge, formerly Virtual Sally, filed its patent with 24 claims, the specific protections you request when filing, and, to the founders’ surprise, was granted all 24.
Mark describes it as an end-to-end solution rather than a single feature, the whole workflow of running a front desk remotely, protected as one system.
Pooled receptionists, live across every clinic
On the reception side, each team member sees a live-streaming video session of every clinic they cover, alongside their counterparts, the other receptionists in the pool. They can move in and out of those lobbies at any moment.
That pooled, many-to-many view is what makes the model efficient: a small team can greet whoever walks up across multiple locations instead of one person waiting at one desk.
Every front desk task, handled remotely
Crucially, a receptionist can transact any business remotely that they could handle sitting at the desk in person. That includes printing locally to the clinic, so if a patient needs a form or a work note, it prints right there, even when the receptionist is working from the Philippines.
They can also take payments and capture insurance cards. Those capabilities, Mark notes, are part of what the patent covers, and part of why the system feels like a full front desk rather than a screen.
